Judge Receives Facelift
Judge’s Bay to receive much needed facelift.
Stage 2 of Judge’s Bay scheduled upgrade will start in mid 2011. The facelift includes improved pedestrian access, better facilities, new paving, public seating and fixtures. A new paved plaza will extend along the beachfront promenade and will include play features, seats, tables and a new toilet / changing room building (reminiscent of old boat-sheds). Pohutukawa trees in the area have already been pruned as to enhance the views and the beach has been re-sanded.
A jetty and floating pontoon will also be installed, evocative of the boat landing structures located at Judge’s Bay 100 years ago. Terraced steps at the western slope of Judge’s Bay Reserve will create strong visual connections from the beachfront to the Reserve and the historic St Stephens Church. New signage and an artwork will also be installed. The Judge’s facelift should be complete by November 2011 and we can’t wait to be there for the big reveal.

Just noticed that the area hasn’t changed much (compared to the painting and the render), good to see. I love the Parnell rose garden and St Stephens Church. I only wish that they would incorporate a little cafe in the boatshed.
I agree with Patrick, a cafe on the shore would be awesome, the closest cafe is Rosehip. Over all I think that it will be a nice upgrade.
I think that they are trying to keep it as commercial free as possible but there is no harm in allowing one of those small mobile coffee units. A few stalls would actually create a carnival feel
A little coffee/snack shop will be awesome there – selling soup in winter and ice cream in summer
Great idea Patrick.
I like that idea
Reason enough to go and chill with the Judge at the Bay
LOL
That will be great, gives people a reason to hang out and chill
I have fond memories off the place as a child and I haven’t been back for a while now. Good enough reason to visit the place again once the upgrade has been completed.
A connection to Tamaki Drive will be good and then they can replace that horrible bridge from the Parnell Pools to the Tamaki Boardwalk.
I think that there are long term plans to do just that. The emphasis being on LONG term
Going to take a look this weekend but I guess that phase 2 will involve even bigger changes. Maybe I should just wait. Hard to judge (excuse the pun) but it looks as if it will be a big improvement.
I love going here after my sunday jog. Now it will be even better.
